J&L Building Materials is a family-owned independent distributor of home building products, including roofing, siding, windows and doors, decking, insulation, and kitchen products. With a history of over 30 years of service to professional contractors, builders, and homeowners, J&L was looking to improve the visual effectiveness of its brand and implement it on a new website and core branded documents. Additionally, our scope of work expanded to help J&L extend the use of their new brand on printed brochures for their showrooms and contractors.
To get started, our team sat down one-on-one with the leadership team and key staff to understand their core values, impressions of the brand, relationships with customers, and vision for the future. From there, we also evaluated the brand from an internal and external vantage point. Next, was to determine J&L’s current brand position in the market, and where they should be positioned after the update. It became clear to us through the strategy phase that J&L’s brand needed to evolve to reflect the history of the company they could lean on in a future full of growth opportunities.
Through the logo design process, we were able to provide variations of the design that maintained qualities of the existing design but was elevated and would help to set them apart in the construction industry. We worked through typography elements that would help them evolve the brand while continuing to be seen as relatable and helpful. With a newly added air of professional, quality value we rounded out the new branding for J&L with a tagline.
To take the brand project a step further, we completed a website redesign project. The goal of the project was to utilize the new brand standards to improve the user experience of the site and provide J&L with a manageable admin. The launch of the website also coincided with the client’s improved customer portal and online bill pay service.
