Logo & Web Design
Growing a small-town museum into an accessible resource through a new digital presence.
Edward Hand Medical Heritage Foundation, now known as Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum, is a small museum in Lancaster, PA that showcases over 11,000 medical and historical artifacts. They approached us with the goals of finishing the logo redesign they had started and sharing their work with the world through an easy-to-use virtual museum.
The Challenge
Edward Hand Medical Museum needed a more modern logo that represented both their namesake and their purpose. The existing logo was old-fashioned and didn’t appeal to younger generations of students who could benefit from the museum’s work.
Their website was also built in an outdated framework that made updates difficult and time consuming. The staff needed an open source solution that would help them quickly catalog and share their thousands of artifacts online with people beyond Lancaster County.
Our Strategy
After a trip to the museum to explore the artifacts first-hand, we designed a contemporary new logo that would attract visitors and donors for years to come.
We then set to work developing a new website that would be user-friendly for both visitors and staff. The new site integrated seamlessly with the existing archiving software, preventing the museum from re-cataloging over 11,000 artifacts. Most importantly, the new site allows donations through PayPal to keep the museum running through funding from its visitors.
The Results
The museum’s virtual collection is easy to navigate, and the new website allows visitors to make donations with just a few clicks. The museum is not only able to preserve these precious artifacts, but it is able to make them accessible for students and other visitors around the world.
“Our new website is instrumental in transforming our museum’s image in the community. This wouldn’t have been possible without the expertise of the Tower Marketing team!”
