Diamond Credit Union provides financial services for the people of Berks County and the tri-county region and serves their members through personal relationships based on “you”nity. With their online banking product becoming a strong component of the site, Diamond realized that their homepage and other key areas of their website were in need of improvements, but they weren’t quite ready for a full website redesign. They needed to create a better user experience within the confines of their current website design and brand styles.
Diamond Credit Union is one of our longest partnerships and, throughout the years, Tower has provided them with website design and development services and maintained Internet Marketing programs, including SEO and content marketing.
When challenged to make improvements to their website, we zeroed in on the site’s user experience (UX). To get a clear direction, we went right to Diamond’s target audience for input. We created a hands-on survey, where web users were asked to navigate and interact with the homepage and other high-traffic web pages and then answer questions about their experience. We collected input from two user bases – those that matched the demographics of Diamond’s average member and those that represented the type of members Diamond hopes to attract.
From the user feedback, our design and development team recommended several areas for improvement. The first step was to simplify and design a clean homepage, eliminating out-dated graphics and a kaleidoscope of colors that gave the site a juvenile feel. Instead, our designers focused on Diamond’s brand colors, modern stock photography, and select user-generated images which give the homepage a more professional feel. Through design and development, we also improved the page hierarchy, using placement and sizing to highlight the areas of the site that users are most interested in, for example placing links to Diamond’s products and services over community announcements. This makes navigating the page more easy and intuitive for the user.
