It’s time for Show and Tell.  A compelling printed piece builds confidence and sells your product or service when you’re not around.  Use your literature as mailings, hand-outs, take-aways and leave-behinds after sales calls.  Talk to your customer anytime.

The key word in discussing the objective of producing printed materials might be the word used above: compelling.

Too often, companies approach a project with this very statement, “We need a brochure!” Quite frankly, that’s not enough.  Just like any form of advertising, the brochures a company produces should have a clear-cut purpose and an objective.

Ask these basic questions:

  • Why do we need this brochure?
  • Who’s the target audience?
  • How will that audience use this brochure?
  • Is this a highly technical piece?
  • Is it written for the “right” audience?
  • Does it reflect our company’s personality?
  • Does it fit our overall strategy of image building and brand awareness?
  • What kind of visuals do we have to work with?
  • Does it meet with the company’s graphic standards?
  • Should it include everything there is to know about our product or service, or can it be a “teaser” to generate further interest?
  • Can this piece be tied to a specific promotion or event like a sale, a seminar, a trade show, a grand opening, a product introduction?
  • Is it timely... or timeless?
  • Does it fit in or stand out from all our other printed pieces and if so, should it? Why? Why not?
  • How will it be distributed?  By mail?  Hand-outs?  Sales calls?  Trade shows?   Fulfillment?  Does that affect its size and format?
  • Will it be private labeled by a dealer or distributor?
  • Is it part of a series or a stand-alone?

The bottom line is that the more focused your brochure is, the better chance you’ll have to reach, attract, and persuade your audiences to do business with you and to buy your products and services.
